Beliefs in a badge
Some of you who visit my site on a semi-regular basis may have seen the new blue Y i Believe badge that it’s sporting at the top right-hand corner of every page. You might have clicked through to see what it was all about, or just glanced over it. I thought it’d be good to write a little about what it stands for and how people can help out in its cause.
The Y i Believe campaign is a dynamic initiative that firstly aims to spread the good news of Jesus Christ through personal and commercial websites and secondly aims to get Christians evangelising using the internet.
Now, if you’re not a Christian yourself then you might be thinking that this is just another way of Christians imposing their views and beliefs on others. If so, then let me tell you that it’s nothing like that at all. We realise that some people may not wish to learn about Jesus, and of course that’s a personal decision that we recognise and respect. In fact, we encourage people to make up their own minds on what they believe and be aware of others trying to impose their own views. We take our approach from the following excerpt from the Bible:
Always be prepared to give an answer to everybody who asks you to give the reason for the hope you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
1 Peter 3:15
However, we also know that there a lot of people out there who want to find out more about who Jesus is and how He and his religion Christianity can help out, both in everyday life and in difficult situations where a helping hand is always appreciated. We also know that these people may have been put off by sometimes heavy-handed preaching which they may not appreciate.
If this sounds like you, then Y i Believe is for you! We take a different approach, asking Christian volunteers to submit testimonials explaining the reasons why they are a Christian, or why they became one if they weren’t before. In this way, you can hear from fellow people who have bought Jesus Christ into their lives explain genuinly why they have done so. Many people who discover Christianity comment on just how much it has helped them to get through difficult times or cope when nothing else has helped. If we can help more people like this, then we consider it a job well done!
If you’re already a Christian, then we encourage you to record a short testimonial explaining why you are a Christian and how the religion has helped you in the past. Just submit it and we’ll include it on the site - you never know, it might help someone to discover that Christianity is for them too. If you have a website, then its even better! You might want to show you support by adding a badge to your pages - all the information is available on the site.
