Lesson 16

This lesson, my instructor decided that it was time for a mock exam, as I only have a few more lesson left before the big day!

But first, I went for a little warm-up drive around town. It was the usual roads with the usual route. Once I’d been driving for around half an hour, my instructor told me that it was time for the exam. This was a mock, but just like the real thing. She would only tell me where to go and which manoeuvres to carry out. Other than that, she would say nothing.

The test itself seemed to be eerily calm and relaxed. I didn’t understand it, but I certainly didn’t mind. I drove for a little while, doing turns and emerging. Then I had to do the turn in the road. It was all going well until I didn’t steer in time and the car went up onto the pavement. Right then, I knew I’d failed it, but I kept cool and finished the job. Of course, she didn’t say anything.

The only other major problem was when I got stuck in the middle of the road opposite another car because there was nowhere for me to go. I had to wait for the other person to reverse and let me through. However, during that time, I was edging forward. Apparently, I was inconveniencing the other road user.

Right at the end of the test, I had to do a parallel park, which I think I actually did quite well. Then she wrote everything down, and told me that I’d failed. I was expecting it though! However, I wasn’t expecting to have four major faults, when I only thought I’d had two. The other two were for some minor things which I think were blown out of proportion. Anyway, I was understandably peeved, although not at my instructor, but at myself.

I drove home even though my instructor asked if I wanted her to drive. I tried not to let me mood affect my driving, and I think I succeeded for the most part.

Overall, this was a mixed lesson. I don’t think I was quite “with it” from the start for some reason. However, I do think that it bought up a number of issues that I now have time to deal with before my real exam.
